The NEA Training Center is an authorized school for the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Service - Bureau of Municipal Police and the New York State Office of Homeland Security. Classes may be delivered at your location or at one of our many training sites. For group or regularly scheduled class needs, please contact a representative.

New York State Security Guard Training Requirements

All security guards are required to complete an 8 Hour Pre-Assignment Training Course prior to applying to the Department of State for a Security Guard Registration Card, followed by a 16 Hour On-the-Job Training Course for Security Guards within 90 days of initial employment as a security guard, and annually complete an 8 Hour Annual In-service Training Course for Security Guards every year thereafter.

Armed guard applicants must possess a valid NYS pistol license pursuant to Penal Law 400.00 and must complete a 47 Hour Firearms Training Course for Security Guards prior to applying for a Special Armed Guard Registration Card. Starting one year from the date of completion of the 47 hour firearms training course, holders of a Special Armed Guard Registration Card must annually complete an 8 Hour Annual In-service Training Course for Armed Security Guards every year thereafter.

NY Homeland Security Certification		Eight Hour Pre-Assignment Course
This is a 44 hour Enhanced Security Officer Course that covers the topics of terrorism and emergency response. Register Now or Learn More		This is the basic required course for working in the capacity of a security agent/guard within New York State. Register Now or Learn More

Sixteen Hour On-The-Job Training Course		Annual Unarmed In-service Training
This course provides the required training and certification to security personnel within the first 90 days of employment. This course may be tailored to a particular industry or business. Register Now or Learn More		Each year security personnel are required to complete an eight hour in-service training course to meet the standards set-forth by NYDCJS. At the minimum, students are provided a refresher from previously delivered courses, additional instruction may be provided based on industry. Learn More

American Red Cross Training		Retail Loss Prevention
As an authorized provider of the American Red Cross, The Peeler Group provides all the course requirements for both work and layman certification. Learn More		Through our training process, loss prevention agents are provided instruction in the detection, apprehension and prevention of shoplifters.
